Romans 1:2-4

…the gospel which God promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Big Idea

The big idea of the gospel is Jesus! He is the gospel. The word “gospel” literally means good news. When we talk to people about Jesus, we are sharing good news. Paul says here in Romans that the good news is all about Jesus. It is good news that was promised in the Old Testament and made clear in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He is the son of God who was a human descendant of David. Jesus is the God-Man, the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. Jesus was distinguished as the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead. The resurrection literally “proved” that Jesus was not just a prophet but the unique Son of God. Jesus is the Lord because He alone is the Son of God and resurrected Savior. That’s the good news!

Personal Take Away

Have you accepted God’s good news? Have your received Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Savior? If you have never opened your heart and mind to Christ, then your take away is to “cross the line” and believe in Jesus Christ as Son of God, the One who was raised from the dead and is the only Lord. If you believe the gospel, then your take away is to share it with someone else. And when your do, remember, you are sharing good news!
