Do You Notice the Cross?

If you walk through my house you’ll notice a variety of crosses scattered throughout. Not a ton–just enough that a casual observer would realize we are Christians.

The crosses have become so familiar to me now, I hardly notice they are there.

Until today.

This morning I walked through our quiet rooms before everyone else woke up, and for the first time in a long time, I saw them. The crosses. The reminders of what Easter really means.

This Friday millions of Christians will celebrate Good Friday. But for millions more, it will be just another Friday workday before the weekend playdays. They’ll rise early, make coffee, drop the kids off, drive to work. They’ll run errands, grab take-out, watch Netflix.

So many people grope through life, zombie-like; unaware how one Friday two millennia ago could change all their Fridays right now.

Could it be that we live unaware, too? Do we walk through our days oblivious about how the cross and the empty tomb changes everything? Changes us?

Are we so familiar with the cross that we fail to appreciate the cross?

Do you–like me–ever look at the cross, without really looking at the cross? Know what I mean?

One good look at the cross can change everything.

Here’s how the Cross of Christ can make a difference in your life.

If you’ve ever doubted that God causes all things to work together for good

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever struggled with forgiveness

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever questioned God’s love

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever wondered about the reality of eternal life

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by sin

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever asked if God really cares

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

If you’ve ever faced the pain of death

LOOK AT THE CROSS.

All history divided for all time, by the cross. The cross purchased our pardon from sin, lavished God’s love on the world, and paved the way for peace with God. Everything good gift we have– in this life and the life to come–is because of Jesus and the cross.

On a lonely Friday, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, stretched out his arms and died. For you. For me. For all mankind.

On the cross.

This year, I’ll look at the cross with fresh eyes. Because the cross changes everything.

How will the cross make a difference in the way you live today? How will the cross motivate you to share the love of Jesus with someone who needs the hope of the cross this week?
