In 2004, he began contract security work in Iraq, providing protection for U.S. personnel and training Iraqi SWAT teams. He also served as a mentor and advisor to the security detail of Iraq’s former Prime Minister.
Mark’s career culminated in Benghazi, where he helped save the lives of more than 25 Americans during the attacks. He continues to recover from injuries sustained in the battle and is a co-author of the bestselling book 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi.
