30 Day Easter Devotional – Day 14

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

The Big Idea:

Christ challenges both His disciples and us as followers of Christ that the light of the gospel and the knowledge of the miracle of grace and eternal life are to be openly declared. We have been blessed with the light of Jesus, and we have also been placed as lights in the world.

Personal Take Away

The application of this passage is for us as followers of Christ to live in such a way that the world sees our good works; our sincerity, our faithfulness to Jesus, and our best efforts in honoring God and living by His truth. As we seek to love God with all of our hearts and love others as Christ put us before Himself, the world around us cannot help but to see Christ through us.

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

Are we living our lives before God in such a way that people around us actually praise our Father in heaven? Take time today to thank God for shining His light in our lives through the gift of His Son, and ask God to give you the wisdom and courage to live for the sake of others, not for ourselves.
